I led the end-to-end design of Samsara’s course authoring and publishing experience, enabling coaches and trainers to quickly create high-impact, customized training for drivers.

We introduced AI-assisted creation tools and content automations
that helped users build engaging courses in minutes. The result:
better learning outcomes, fewer accidents, and more confident teams on the road.

Problem
Training was generic, inaccessible,
and ignored by drivers

Drivers faced long, generic courses with low completion rates and little impact. Training was only in English, leaving many Spanish-speaking workers unable to engage. Without relevant, accessible content, it became

a checkbox exercise rather than a tool for change. We needed to equip authors and coaches to easily create, job-specific training drivers could understand and apply to their day to day job.

Managers lacked a single place to see performance in context or act quickly. Critical information like coaching outcomes, training completion, and high-risk driving trends was buried across multiple dashboards and spreadsheets. With limited
time, supervisors struggled to connect the dots, delaying interventions and recognition that could improve retention
and safety.

Drivers faced long, generic courses with low completion rates and little impact. Training was only in English, leaving many Spanish-speaking workers unable to engage. Designing Training to Scale Across Teams

We validated concepts early through weekly prototype sessions with real users, then launched an alpha focused on basic creation and publishing flows. Customers liked the builder but struggled with the time required to convert existing training documents into courses. Many held back from creating more content, so we prioritized the AI course generator for open beta to reduce effort and accelerate adoption.

Working closely with Product, Mobile, Automation, and Forms teams, we shared learnings to inform strategies for forms, alerts, and broader workflow improvements, ensuring the solution could scale across roles and organizations and all teams were aligned to our vision.

Modular content blocks

Authors can easily add text, images, videos, and single or multi-select quiz questions in a drag-and-drop interface. The left-hand “pages” navigation allows them to organize lessons into sections, creating as many or as few lessons as needed for each role and topic. This flexibility makes course building fast, intuitive, and tailored to learners’ needs.

Authoring & Publishing Controls

Authors can publish, edit, and reassign courses at any time when given full admin access. They maintain full control over who can manage content, ensuring updates are accurate and accessible across the organization.

AI-Powered Course Builder

Authors can use Samsara Intelligence to create interactive courses by uploading existing PDFs, manuals, or documents and instantly turn them into editable, structured courses. This lets lets authors rapidly build robust training without starting from scratch.

Behavior and schedule driven
training automations

Coaches can set rules to automatically assign courses based on safety behaviors or recurring training schedules. This ensures the right workers get the right training at the right time, freeing coaches from manual work so they can focus on higher-impact tasks
