All Payments in One Place

Led a company-wide effort to redesign Tesla’s payment experience, recommending a centralized hub for managing payments, subscriptions, leases, insurance, and more. Partnered with 10 cross-functional stakeholders to define a short-term vision that unifies payment management across products and customers.

Problem
Scattered payment data.
Hidden histories.
Scattered payment data. Hidden histories.

Customers lacked a clear way to track or manage payments. Transaction histories and receipts were buried across different parts of the app, often taking multiple clicks to find. Without proactive notifications, many only realized issues once payments failed, leaving them unsure which charges were tied to which subscriptions. This led to service interruptions, frustration, and growing distrust. This broken experience led to more support calls and higher internal costs.

Customers had no clear way to track or manage their payments. Transaction histories and receipts were hidden behind multiple clicks and scattered across different parts of the app, making them difficult to find. With no proactive notifications when issues arose, customers often discovered too late which payments were tied to which subscriptions resulting in service interruptions, frustration, and growing distrust. The broken experience also drove a surge in support calls and higher service costs.

Research & Insights
Make Payment History Transparent
and Understandable

We spoke with NA and EU service agents and conducted desktop research on Reddit and blogs to identify pain points in payment management. Our research uncovered six main needs focused on transparency and visibility into payment history and detailed charges. These insights guided our design explorations and informed the final architecture recommendations.

Approach & Designs
Uniting Teams to Transform
the Payment Experience

I led cross-functional workshops and alignment meetings with designers, PMs, and engineers from the Payments, Mobile, Charging, Lease, Solar, and Maintenance teams to validate and refine initial design explorations and IA changes. Through iterative discussions, we aligned on a single concept that delivered the strongest experience for our customers.

After the revised proposal was approved, I transitioned out of Tesla before implementation and launch.

01
Centralized Payments Overview

Users can access their wallet, recurring payments, and transaction history in a single location making it discoverable in just two clicks without having to select a vehicle or solar product first.

02
Contextual Transaction History

Users can clearly see which card was used for each subscription, lease, or if they received a refund, helping them understand their spending without confusion or friction.

03
Manage Recurring Payments

Users can easily find and manage all their active and inactive subscriptions, update payment methods, and access statements and receipts. Simplifying recurring payment management and helping them avoid disruptions.

04
Transaction History with
Detailed Receipts
Transaction History with Detailed Receipts

All PDF receipts are now converted to digital receipts with full charge details, payment methods, and associated vehicle or solar product. This gives users complete visibility into their activity.
